This petition dated October 16, 1934, addressed to the Loudoun County School Board from the Black citizens of Paeonian Springs, Virginia, highlights the urgent need for a school for their children. The undersigned parents express concern over the lack of transportation and distance to the nearest school in Waterford for the 24 Black children in need of a closer school. [Petitions (Colored schools) 1934 - Bluemont - was closed due to pupil count, patrons wanted teacher and pupils transported to Rock Hill] Patrons write to the Virginia Board of Education about the closing of the school for colored children in Bluemont, a rural community in Loudoun County, Virginia. They request their children and their children's teacher be transported to Rock Hill Colored since Bluemont Colored had been closed due to low enrollment. The petitioners emphasize that their request is reasonable, possibly because transportation was commonly provided when white schools were consolidated. The record is in the possession of Loudoun County, not the Virginia Board of Education, indicating that the state may have forwarded the letter back to local officials.

They argue that the pupils of their school deserve the same educational opportunities and advantages as other schools in the county. They also express concern that reducing the school's hours would hinder community social events that the resident teacher usually organizes. The patrons highlight the challenges of impassable roads and expensive transportation, arguing that maintaining a full-time teacher is necessary for the children's education and community's involvement with the school. The list of signatories at the end of the letter demonstrates widespread community support for this request.
