We, the school patrons, citizens, and Tax payers of the Waterford community, unite in protest against the actions of The Loudoun Co School board in closing the Waterford High School next year.
We submit the following reasons_
1./ The Waterford people have always cooperated in the requests of the school board for improving our school by raising money for the auditorium, for laboratory and other equipment, building up a good library and in keeping up health standards.
2./ We have been unable to increase the enrollment partly because of the consistent policy of the school board to divert potential High School pupils to schools further away than Waterford.
3./ The present local building projects offer promise of an increased school enrollment soon.
4./ The difficulties of bus travel outweigh any advantages to be obtained in a larger school. These difficulties include the extra time taken in going to and from school, health hazards while waiting for the bus in rain, snow, and freezing weather, dangers of a mountain road, lack of supervision on the bus.
5./ Some of our country children will be deprived of any High School education because they cannot be spared from home the extra time required.
6./ Closing our High School will depreciate property value, increase Taxes, discourage

People from settling here, and will decentralize our rural community. People will move to town and as this is an agricultural county, such a trend away from the farms will not keep Loudoun property.
7./ Rural children should be educated in their own environment in order to build up rural districts.
8./ We have an excellent faculty, adequate school building and equipment in good order. There is no economy in moving the school. Increase in taxes and tax rates has always followed consolidation. Our High School is well worth building up in spite of the demoralizing effect of the action of the school board.
9./ Bringing children together from all parts of the county increases danger of spreading contagious disease.
10./ Our fine grade school will be affected as younger children will be apt to go where older children in the same family go to High School.
11./ Mr Emerick was duly informed before the November board meeting that 100 of the Waterford patrons wished to retain the Waterford High School.
In consideration of these points, we urge the County School Board to reconsider their decision in regard to closing the Waterford High School.
